Included in this goal in the Community Plan are comments about:

• residents being engaged
• opportunities for residents to have a say about important issues
• there being a balance of views representing the community
• opportunities to pursue an active interest in community life
• residents being adequately represented at all levels of government.

 We'd like to hear your feedback and ideas on the following strategies designed to meet this goal:

Strategy 1.1 Development of a Mailors Flat Progress Association.

Strategy 1.2 An online Community Profile for Mailors Flat to be established that includes a website, Facebook page and other online resources that can be used by residents and visitors to keep informed.

Strategy 1.3 Inclusion of community representatives on Council delegations, working parties and at issues forums.

Strategy 1.4 Training and development opportunities provided for community representatives.

Strategy 1.5 For Mailors Flat Progress Association to take the Mailors Flat Community Plan and shape it into a resource that ensures that it is more than a list of activities that would be good to do, but rather a systematic examination of the community, a strategic vision for the future, an action plan with responsibilities assigned, and a timeline for completion.

Included in this goal in the Community Plan are comments about:

• the general level of personal health and wellbeing.
• community connectedness
• levels of early childhood support
• perceptions of personal and community safety
• availability of services.

We'd like to hear your feedback and ideas on the following strategies:

Strategy 2.1 Explore options for school holiday and after school care in Mailors Flat.

Strategy 2.2 That a dialogue be undertaken between Council, VicRoads and the Mailors Flat Progress Association to explore how to best address and progress identified road safety issues on the Caramut Warrnambool Road, Russells Road and Shadys Lane.

Included in this goal in the Community Plan are comments about:

• state of the local economies
• availability of local employment
• distribution of wealth and opportunity
• sustainable development and environmental responsibility
• levels of education and skill levels
• schools dedicated to creating capable, confident, emotionally mature young people who are equipped to reach their full potential.

We'd like to hear you feedback and ideas on the following strategies:

Strategy 3.1 Through the Mailors Flat Progress Association and Council, to lobby for improved telecommunications infrastructure to service the current and projected growth for Mailors Flat and the surrounding area.

Strategy 3.2 For the Mailors Flat Progress Association to input into the development of the Warrnambool Moyne Economic Development Strategy through the public comment phase and any appropriate opportunities during its implementation.

Included in this goal in the Community Plan are comments about:

• access to areas of open space
• appearance of open space
• housing affordability
• public transport
• dedicated walking and cycling trails
• roads
• footpaths
• sustainable energy use
• air quality
• water
• waste management.

We'd like to hear you feedback and ideas on the following strategies:

Strategy 4.1 Develop a Masterplan for the central area of Mailors Flat between the Community Hall and General Store to include items including (but not restricted to) the redevelopment of the tennis courts, defined car parking, BBQ shelter, public toilets, improved entry from Caramut Road, bus stop, park amenity, play ground, provision for future location of the CFA shed and pathway linkages.

Strategy 4.2 Development of a concise management plan for Shadys Lane, including:

• vegetation management expectations
• road surface maintenance
• land acquisition opportunities for conservation and recreational purposes
• closure options at Ibbs Road.

Strategy 4.3 Prepare township design guidelines for the future development of Mailors Flat, including appropriate design consideration for items including public lighting, street lighting, footpath surfaces, bollards, fencing treatments, road widths, formalised drainage and bus stops.

Included in this goal in the Community Plan are comments about:

• opportunities to participate in arts and cultural activities
• opportunities to participate in sporting and recreation activities
• community acceptance of diverse cultures.

We'd like to hear your feedback and ideas on the following strategies:

Strategy 5.1 Develop a regular newsletter for the Mailors Flat and district community.

Strategy 5.2 Explore the future use of the Mailors Flat Community Hall in light of projected increase in young families and young people.

Strategy 5.3 Develop opportunities for the history of Mailors Flat to be identified and showcased.

Strategy 5.4 Actively promote community arts opportunities to the community.
